Netherlands, Kampen. In the 12th century Kampen was a powerfull Hansa city due to it's location between the Zuiderzee (now IJsselmeer) and the Rhine river. As the IJssel river grew smaller, the city lost it's importance. In 1826 the German Johannes Lehmkuhl brought prosperity back to Kampen, by introducing cigar manufacturing. From the many cigar factories, only De Olifant (elephant) has left.
