Netherlands, Den Haag (the Hague). Riviervismarkt. The stork is a symbol for the city and is used (together with the royal lions) at the Coat of Arms (stadswapen) of The Hague. Probably the population had more affinity with the stork than with the lions: Officialy the stork was symbol for "Luckyness' but some centuries ago the city used tame curtaleed storks (tamme gekortwiekte ooievaars) to clean up te fish leftovers and garbage at the fishmarket (Vismarkt is stil the name of the square) The town installed even somebody to put the storks after the marketday in a bench full of straw so, they were treated queit well
